Mayor's Note (July 2023)
In early June, I traveled to Washington D.C. with members of Metro’s Joint Policy Advisory Committee on Transportation to advocate for transportation improvements and funding for projects in our community. Over 40 people from our region made the trip and, together, we informed the congressional delegation and U.S. Department of Transportation of our highest priority projects for potential federal investment in the coming years. We also discussed the challenges we experience when applying for federal funding, including local match requirements.
We advocated for projects of regional importance like the SW Corridor Light Rail, a 99W Corridor Plan, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. We also discussed potential projects in Tualatin that might address traffic on Boones Ferry Road, the intersections of 65th Avenue with Borland Road and Sagert Street, and the Tualatin-Sherwood Road/Boones Ferry Road intersection.
Improving our regional transportation system is a major priority in Tualatin and it will take local, regional, and federal action to make the needed investments. Visit our website to learn more about the improvements we have made through the Tualatin Moving Forward transportation bond program and stay tuned for information about our work to update Tualatin’s Transportation System Plan.
