Mayor's Note (June 2023)

Frank Bubenik Headshot

One of the unique privileges of being Tualatin's Mayor is the opportunity to meet with young people in our community. Last month, students from Tualatin High School toured City facilities and joined me for lunch and conversation. I shared a bit about my experience as Mayor, but mostly took the opportunity to ask questions and hear about their experiences in our community.

Also last month, the City hosted two eighth grade classes from Hazelbrook Middle School on their Career Day. Many students were familiar with some of the career types available at cities, but most were surprised to hear about the sheer variety. Tualatin employs engineers, librarians, police officers, maintenance technicians, recreation managers, and many more.

Finally, we hosted Good Evening Tualatin, the 2023 State of the City Address on April 26. For the first time since 2019, the event was held live and in person. I enjoyed seeing many familiar faces - including my pen pal Eme! Eme first wrote to me in 2020 as a ten-year-old concerned about litter and pollution in our community. Thank you to the Tualatin Chamber of Commerce for co-hosting the event. A recording of the event (in English and Spanish) is available on our website.

There are many opportunities for youth to get involved with the City, including volunteering, employment, and joining an advisory committee. Reach out to me or our City staff to find out more!
