Siuslaw Stormwater Improvements
Project Type:
Capital Project
Project Status:
Underway
What is this project?
The Siuslaw Greenway Stormwater project consists of several improvements to the storm drainage system in and around the Siuslaw Greenway including:
- Replacement of existing deteriorated drainage pipes from Boones Ferry Road under Siuslaw Lane to the Siuslaw Greenway
- Construction of stormwater treatment swales along the Siuslaw Greenway path and upstream of 98th Ave.
- Regrading areas where stormwater currently flows across the greenway path
- Replacement of existing deteriorated drainage pipes from the Siuslaw Greenway under 98th Ave and Coquille Dr towards Hedges Creek
- Repair of the stormwater outfall southwest of Coquille Dr towards Hedges Creek
Why is this project being constructed?
This project replaces deteriorated infrastructure to reduce erosion and other damaging effects of future rainfall events. Constructing the stormwater treatment swales will provide a natural way to remove pollutants from the stormwater (runoff from a few hundred homes and adjacent roads) before it enters the creek. These improvements will also reduce flooding of the greenway path.
How was this site chosen?
This project was identified in the recently-adopted City of Tualatin Stormwater master Plan as an opportunity to replace deteriorated infrastructure, remove pollutants from stormwater runoff, and improve trail conditions with one project. It is also part of Tualatin’s adopted 2024-25 budget.
How is this project funded?
This project is funded by Tualatin Residents through surface water management fees collected for the Stormwater Operations Fund, and from System Development Charges paid by developers for improvements to the stormwater system related to growth through the Stormwater Development Fund.
What is the anticipated timeline for this project?
Surveying and conceptual design work is planned to start in the Fall of 2024, with detailed design and environmental permitting progressing through 2025 and planned construction in 2026.
Will there be opportunities to comment on the proposed design?
The public will be informed and invited to provide input at various stages of the project, particularly during the design stages in 2025.
