Mayor's Note (Dec. 2020/Jan. 2021)
There are many words to describe the kind of year this has been. Long, short, unimaginable, remarkable, trying... I'm excited to at least be able to say it's almost over.
Since March, the City Council has been holding our meetings virtually. While this has come with some challenges, it has also made the meetings accessible in a new way. Instead of trekking into the Juanita Pohl Center, community members can log in from their homes to provide public comment. We've heard from many in our community this past year and, at times, seen better-than-average attendance.
As in most even years, we will see two of our City Councilors leave office: Councilor Paul Morrison and Councilor Robert Kellogg. They both joined the City Council in 2017 after spending time with the Community Involvement Organization (CIO) program. I have appreciated working with them these past four years, first as a fellow City Councilor and now as Mayor. They each cared passionately for Tualatin and brought that ethic to their service on the council. We'll celebrate them more at our next City Council meeting on December 14.
With this transition, we will also be welcoming Councilor Valerie Pratt back to the City Council and greeting newly elected Councilors Christen Sacco and Cyndy Hillier. More to come on these three in our next issue of Tualatin Today!
