Mayor's Note (July 2021)
This month, the topic is water. While it is simple to turn on the shower in the morning and fill your water bottle at the tap before heading out, the process of providing water is quite complicated and requires careful management. Here are three things you may not know about how we manage water in Tualatin.
- We purchase water from the City of Portland, which means our water comes from the pristine Bull Run Reservoir.
- We are a member of the Regional Water Providers Consortium, a group of 22 regional water providers who promote a regional approach to managing this resource.
- You can do a lot at home to conserve water and save on your monthly bill.
You probably knew about that last one. At the City of Tualatin, we do a great deal to manage and plan for our long-term water supply. Water conservation and using water resources efficiently is a big part of that effort.
Coming soon we will have two opportunities for community members to engage on our water supply. First, we are in the final stages of developing our Water Master Plan. This plan will include a comprehensive analysis of Tualatin's water system, identify areas of concern, and recommend future actions. We hope you'll tune in as we have more information to share.
Second, during this year's State of the City Address, Councilor Bridget Brooks announced that we would be taking on the development of a Climate Action Plan. The plan will guide our community efforts for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This is a topic of great importance to our city and I hope you'll consider getting involved in the coming months.
