Mayor's Note (October 2021)
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Community Involvement Organization Program in Tualatin. The program - most commonly referred to as "CIOs" - has provided a valuable link between neighborhoods, businesses, and the City organization on various issues through the years. Every resident falls within one of six residential CIOs, and for businesses, there is the Commercial CIO.
Taken from the program's original purpose statement, the program "provides an opportunity for members to meaningfully cooperate with each other and with the City of Tualatin... A major purpose of the Community Involvement Program is to promote communication and a sense of community."
Over the years, the program has accomplished a lot. For example, many neighborhoods boast decorative sign caps with the name of the CIO. The CIOs have also led much of our community's emergency preparedness work, establishing the CERT and Neighborhood Ready networks. The almost-complete Garden Corner Curves project, funded by our Tualatin Moving Forward transportation bond, was a priority issue for several CIOs and came to fruition through their advocacy. Their website includes a much longer list than this.
There are many ways to get involved! Check out the interactive map to find your CIO and visit the website: www.tualatincio.org. Then, consider attending an upcoming meeting or volunteering for one of the boards. If you're in the Riverpark or Martinazzi Woods CIOs, save the date for your annual meeting.
