Mayor's Note (October 2022)
Since 2018, we have been focusing on what the next forty years will look like for our community. Through the work of Tualatin|2040 and other strategic efforts, we understand that our community needs more residential and commercial lands to accommodate expected growth and meet state requirements for land use. These efforts have become paramount as a result of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the continued economic recovery.
With those needs comes challenges associated with transportation, infrastructure, density, and expanded housing options while preserving and enhancing our community identity and recreational opportunities. Residents and businesses continue to stress the desire for a vibrant town center.
Over the past year, the City has been developing the Core Opportunity and Reinvestment Area Plan that will identify a set of projects in alignment with these community needs and goals for a set period of time.
Example Projects Include:
- Downtown planning and community design standards
- Mixed-used development along Lower Boones Ferry Road
- Develop a main-street corridor along the Lake of the Commons
- Intersection improvements
- Continued investments in our small businesses
The City is currently holding an online open house for people interested in learning more about these efforts. If you are interested about our work in the Core Area of Tualatin, please visit www.tualatinoregon.gov/economicdevelopment to learn more.
