Mayor's Note (December 2021 & January 2022)
The winter season is just around the corner with colder temperatures and shorter days. How will you take care to keep yourself and your family well, warm, and safe this winter?
Here are a few winter wellness tips to help you enjoy winter in Tualatin.
- Respiratory viruses such as colds and the flu tend to spread more easily in cold, dry air; data suggest COVID might behave the same way. Please get vaccinated if you have not done so yet and get a booster, if eligible.
- Soak up as much sunlight as you can and get 30 minutes of exercise daily.
- Check out Park and Recreation's Park to Park Adventures for a variety of walks or sign up to be an outdoor Do-It-Yourself Volunteer.
- If walking in the dark, wear reflective clothing items to assist drivers in seeing you.
- Increase Vitamin D intake and stock up with in-season root vegetables and citrus fruits.
- Aim for a regular sleep pattern; try not to hibernate.
- Acknowledge that seasonal affective disorder is real in the Northwest and watch for signs and symptoms.
- Hydrate yourself and your skin.
- Know the weather forecast. Dress appropriately and make sure your home and car are prepared as well.
- Know what your pet needs for a safe and warm winter.
- Winterize your home.
- Be ready for winter driving.
