Application and Frequently Asked Questions about Volunteering
How do I get started?
Fill out an application and then you will be contacted within two business days to schedule a short telephone interview.
What are the age requirements?
We accept volunteers 14 and older for most assignments. We have opportunities for children 5 and older who volunteer with a parent or relative. We encourage families to volunteer together.
Do you have group volunteer opportunities?
Yes! Please contact Margaret Gunther at 503.691.3070 or Jackie Konen at 503.691.3087 to schedule your event. We will need a minimum of 60 days to plan and prepare for your event. We can accommodate up to 25 people in the library, 60 people at a planting event, and 100 at an invasive plant removal.
Groups who have volunteered: Comcast, Key Bank, Umpqua Bank, Tualatin High School Honor Society and Key Club, Boy Scouts of America, Girls Scouts, neighborhoods, AT&T, PGE...
What is the time commitment?
We have one-time volunteer opportunities that are require 2-3 hours, committees and boards that require 3-4 hours once a month, or assignments with weekly shifts of 2-3 hours.
What do I do if I feel I need special accommodations?
If you feel you need special accommodations please fill out the Accommodations Request Form and someone from Volunteer Services will contact you within two business days.
Do you offer court mandated service?
Currently, the City of Tualatin is not offering any opportunities for court mandated service.
Do I need a background check?
We do not require a background check for most of the volunteer assignments. If you need a background check it will be noted in the assignment description.
I am looking for a paying job. Will volunteering help me get hired by the City of Tualatin?
Simply stated, no. City of Tualatin volunteers are to supplement the work of paid staff. However, being a volunteer looks great on a resume. Plus, you'll get much needed, 'real-world' experience by volunteering on a regular basis.
Can I just show up to volunteer?
Yes, at Put Down Roots in Tualatin (the tree plantings) and library's Spruce Up Tualatin Library. All other assignments require an interview, orientation and training.
How do I change my schedule?
Current volunteers may access Volgistics to make changes to your schedule and review personal records. You can sign up for current openings. If you have any questions or are not able to login contact Margaret Gunther at 503.691.3070 or Jackie Konen at 503.691.3087.
