Cascade Education Corps Students
Put Down Roots in Tualatin
CEC / Brown’s Ferry Park
January 20, 2015
- 8 CEC students have adopted Brown’s Ferry Park for their primary area of study and restoration project.
- CEC Students led 25 Tigard High School CE2 students in Phase 1, English ivy and Himalayan blackberry removal, at the selected site.
- 3 yards of invasive species were removed. This team has a planting event scheduled at the site on March 4, 2015.
Since 1992 Cascade Education Corps (CEC) has served the youth and communities of Washington County by connecting high school students with the important work of regional environmental stewardship.
The program serves multiple purposes in the community. It provides an alternative route to graduation, allowing students to obtain credit while gaining valuable work experience, life skills, and ecological literacy. CEC simultaneously provides a skilled, affordable workforce to local organizations involved in the work of managing local natural resources. This work, in turn, benefits the entire community by providing clean water, clean air, valuable wildlife habitat, and beauty.
Thank you to supporting City staff, Tom Steiger, Ryan Flett, Jace Rode and Miguel Alfaro-Gonzalez.
