Tualatin Cancels In-Person Programs and Events through May 31
(Tualatin, OR) - On Tuesday, April 14, City Manager Sherilyn Lombos announced that the City would cancel all in-person programs and events through May 31 and some major events beyond that date. This includes programs and events delivered by the Library, Parks and Recreation Department, and Volunteer Services. The following events are cancelled:
- Bulky Waste and Yard Debris Day;
- Tualatin State of the City; and
- Blender Dash.
"It may feel like an extreme measure, but in light of the direction from the Governor's Office we have decided that providing clear answers now will better allow our community to plan for their families," said City Manager Sherilyn Lombos. "We must continue to practice physical distancing, while staying socially connected."
In lieu of in-person programming, City staff have been busy putting together online activities and assembling resource lists for families and adults looking for things they can do safely at home. Earlier this month, the Parks and Recreation Department encouraged the community to Chalk Your Walk and provided bags of chalk for the public to pick up and use in their neighborhoods. The Library has posted weekly story time videos capturing over 600 views on the City's YouTube channel. For older adults, the Juanita Pohl Center has provided virtual fitness classes on a weekly basis. These resources and more are available on the City's website: www.tualatinoregon.gov.
Updated information about in-person programs and events scheduled to occur after May 31, including registration information, will be posted on the City's website on an ongoing basis.
