Mayor's Note (March 2022)
The first day of Spring is March 20th, and with that comes something many of us are familiar with: spring cleaning! We do a lot to keep our community clean. Here are a few highlights.
Street Sweeping Program
Our Public Works Department sweeps over 76 miles of streets within the city every month. Regular removal of dirt, leaves, and debris that accumulate naturally in the road is necessary to prevent potential flooding issues and protect water quality.

Graffiti Removal
Unfortunately, we do see illegal graffiti on both public and private property. Research has shown that removal within 24 - 48 hours is an effective way to discourage repeat vandalism. If graffiti occurs on public property, our Maintenance Services team tries to remove it as soon as possible. If you notice graffiti, please report it by calling the police non-emergency number at 503-629-0111.

Code Enforcement and Compliance
We have two positions dedicated to code enforcement and compliance in the city. Together, our Building Division's Code Compliance Officer and Police Department's Community Services Officer educate and collaborate with community members and businesses to ensure city codes and ordinances are met. They will respond to calls for service related to graffiti, parking, abandoned vehicles, lost or found property, temporary signs, fence regulations, and other neighborhood complaints.

Recycling Tips from Washington County
We partner with Republic Services and Washington County on our waste and recycling programs. Did you know, on average, Oregonians generate more than seven pounds of trash per day? You can reduce your waste by switching up a few habits:
- Keep reusable shopping bags in your car or by the door;
- Opt-out of junk mail, catalogs, and the phone book;
- Celebrate holidays and birthdays by wrapping presents with reusable materials like scarves or tote bags;
- Carry a reusable mug with you; and
- Avoid buying bottled water.

Finally, I will be hosting a community coffee social on March 12 from 9:30am – 11:30am at the Tualatin Community Park picnic shelter. Please stop by for coffee and doughnuts and share your ideas and concerns for the city or to learn more about what is going on in the community.
