99W Paving Begins - Monday, April 15, 2013
A contractor for ODOT will begin a paving project Monday, April 15, 2013 (weather permitting) on OR 99W in both directions from the Tualatin River Bridge to Sunset Boulevard, a distance of approximately 4.7 miles. This stretch of highway travels through King City, Tualatin, unincorporated Washington County and Sherwood.
The pavement on OR 99W in this section has been identified as deteriorated and in need of rehabilitation. Grinding and paving the highway will repair and preserve the roadway and provide a smoother roadway surface. The current striping will be replaced with durable thermoplastic striping and raised pavement markings. Striping locations will not change.
This work is weather dependent and will be delayed in wet weather.
Construction will take place almost entirely during nighttime hours. This is due to high traffic volumes and the backups that would occur if travel lanes on OR 99W were closed during the day. The contractor plans to work primarily Monday through Friday nights, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. (until 9 a.m. on Saturday mornings). There may be occasional night work on Saturdays and Sundays.
Traffic impacts will include nighttime lane closures on OR 99W, often one lane in each direction simultaneously. When paving through a signalized intersection, the traffic signal will be turned off and flaggers will control all directions of traffic.
Once construction begins, there will be a link from this page to the weekly construction news which details construction impacts, updated every Friday.
Work should be complete by October 2013. Please drive carefully through the construction zone.
