PROGRAM SUMMARY
TuPD (Tualatin Police Department) H.E.R.O.E.S. (Helping Educate Responsible Outstanding Everyday Students) Summer Camp focuses on promoting Tigard-Tualatin School District’s values, which are about being Respectful, Responsible, Safe, and Kind. Our summer component serves students who will be entering 6th through 9th grades and provides those students with opportunities for social and educational activities in the summer months.
The program curriculum is adapted from year to year. Typical topics include:
- The Effects of Crime on our Community
- Risks and Alternatives to Alcohol, Tobacco, and Drugs
- Conflict Resolution
- Decision Making
- Goal Setting
- Healthy Relationships and Self-Image
- Juvenile Law and Procedures
The program includes a recreational component that promotes teamwork, physical fitness, and strategic thinking. Students participate in field trips to nearby attractions for activities like swimming, bowling, laser tag, and games.
ELIGIBILITY
The program is open to students entering 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grades. Tualatin Residents receive first priority during program registration. Reasonable accommodations will be made to meet students’ needs. Students are requested and expected to attend every day of the session they register.
STAFF
The program is administered by the police officers assigned to the Tualatin Police School Resource Unit. Additional staff includes a licensed school teacher as a liaison to the Tigard-Tualatin School District and recreation leaders employed through the City of Tualatin.
FUNDING
The TuPD H.E.R.O.E.S. Summer Camp is funded through a combination of user fees, donations, support from the City of Tualatin general fund, and the Tigard-Tualatin School District. Financial assistance is available on a case by case basis. No student has ever been turned away due to inability to pay the registration fee.
SUMMER 2024
The TuPD H.E.R.O.E.S. Summer Camp has flexible one-week sessions. Four one-week sessions are offered. Students may register for more than one session, however there may be some overlap in program content.

*Session #1 will be open to 6th grade students only. All other sessions will include 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students.*
All sessions will be held at Durham Elementary School and run from 8:30am to 3:30pm daily. Lunch and snack are always provided. Bus transportation to and from camp will be provided, if needed. Pickup/drop-off times and locations are as follows:

NON-RESIDENTS
The TuPD H.E.R.O.E.S. Summer Camp is funded by City of Tualatin tax dollars, therefore registration will only be open to Tualatin residents initially, and subject to address verification. After June 1, 2024, any vacant openings will become available to residents of surrounding communities.
