Tualatin Drone Program

Unmanned Aerial Systems
Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), also referred to as drones, are any aircraft that do not have a human pilot on board. The Tualatin Police Department uses drones to protect the lives and property of law enforcement and the community. Drones provide officers with important information during emergency situations and criminal investigations.
Drone operators and gear
Our department currently has four drone pilots, all certified through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) under Part 107. Our drone pilots consist of two patrol sergeants and two patrol officers. The drones we are currently flying are the DJI Matrice 30T and DJI Avata 2.
ways we use drones
The Tualatin Police Department uses drones in a multitude of ways. Some examples include searching for missing persons, clearing buildings and cars, event overwatch, and locating a suspect who fled on foot.
guidelines
All Tualatin Police drone usage strictly operates in accordance with constitutional privacy rights, FAA regulations, and the Tualatin Police UAS Policy. To better understand how we operate and what we can and cannot do, please refer to the Tualatin Police Policy Manual linked below. (§ 613 - Unmanned Aerial Systems)
