Celebrating Public Service & Public Works

May is for Everyday Heroes: Celebrating Public Service & Public Works!

Move over, flowers — May is blooming with appreciation for the folks who keep our communities strong, safe, and running smoothly!

  1. The first full week of May kicks off Public Service Recognition Week — a time to give a big shoutout to the dedicated government employees at every level who serve with heart and hustle. From answering emergency calls to processing permits, managing parks and libraries, to maintaining public safety, these behind-the-scenes stars are the reason our towns and cities thrive.
  2. May keeps the celebration rolling with National Public Works Week, observed the third full week of the month. This is when we tip our hard hats to the unsung heroes who build, repair, and maintain the infrastructure we rely on every single day. Roads, water systems, sanitation, and more — public works teams literally lay the groundwork for our daily lives.

So whether it’s the person helping helping you find your next great book or the crews fixing the roadway markings during your morning commute — May is the month to say thank you.

Let’s show some love to our public service and public works pros — the real MVPs of May!

Join us in learning about the importance of public works – from planning and managing projects to operating and maintaining our streets, stormwater infrastructure, drinking water and sewer systems, public works staff are hard at work every day to ensure that Tualatin remains a pleasant place to live, work, and play.

Download and complete our infrastructure scavenger hunt between May 1-20 for a chance to win a $50 Fred Meyer gift card, and follow along with us on social media between May 16-20 to learn more about what we do and who we are!
