Community Emergency Response Team - CERT
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program trains people - from all walks of life - in basic disaster response skills. CERT members can assist others when professional responders are not immediately available to help.
Fall 2024 Training:
- Team Training (In-Person)
- Meetings on Tuesday evenings 6:00-9:00pm at Tualatin City Services (10699 SW Herman Rd)
- September 10, 17, 24
- October 1, 8, 15, 22
- The final training exercises will be on one Saturday morning (approx. 8:00am-12:00pm)

- Training is FREE.
- After successful completion of training, the Fall 2024 class will be given CERT equipment and become fully certified as CERT Basic members.
- Limited to 25 participants
- If the class is full, you will be given the option to add your name to the waitlist for a fall opening or for the Spring 2025 class.

CERT Training Overview:
Tualatin CERT offers to Tualatin residents or people working in the City a free 7-week BASIC CERT training course twice a year.
- The city’s CERT membership welcomes professionals from any of Tualatin’s large corporations, small business owners, Tualatin High School students, Explorer Scouts, Ham Radio groups, Citizen Involvement Association (CIO), and any concerned resident interested in becoming certified by successfully completing an seven week, 24 hour program.
- You must be 18 years or older to attend, but 16 year olds may attend if accompanied by an adult. After training, you will be part of your neighborhood CIO incident team.
- If you already have a BASIC CERT certificate from another location, you can immediately join the team.
The team meets once per month (typically on a Wednesday) from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. You are also eligible for additional training in Ham radio and neighborhood emergency preparation.
Important Note: All participants must have a criminal background check prior to becoming a CERT member.
CERT Training will cover:
- Disaster Awareness, Hazard Mitigation, and Community Emergency Response Team concepts
- Utility Control, Fire Suppression, Hazardous Materials
- Disaster Medicine — Triage and treatment of minor and life threatening injuries
- Light Search and Rescue - Visual assessment of damaged buildings, search techniques, rescue techniques and patient transport
- Team Response and Management
- Terrorism and Community Response Teams
