Public Works Week 2012

The City of Tualatin, Oregon Official Website

National Public Works Week (NPWW) is a celebration of the tens of thousands of men and women in North America who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works.

This is the nineteenth year that the City has partnered with Hazelbrook Middle School in celebrating this event.  During the week of May 19th, the Leadership Students visit the City of Tualatin Operations yard where you will be shadowing various activities with our City crews.  Each student will be assigned a specific group to work with.  It will be the student’s responsibility to gain as much information about their activity as possible and then take the following week to prepare an activity to share with the sixth grade students during our annual Public Works Fair.

In the past, students have prepared charts or posters and some have even created games to share their new skills with the other students.  This year’s theme is PUBLIC WORKS:  CREATING A LASTING IMPRESSION.   During this year's celebration, the 8th Grade Leadership class from Hazelbrook Middle School presented information to over 300 sixth grade students in areas of Line Jetting, Backhoe Operation, Aerial Photography and GIS, Traffic and Transportation, Emergency Management, Recycling, Public Parks and even How to Build a Police Car.
