Snow and Ice Preparation Underway
Falling snow can be “Snow much fun” but with that it also brings out some hazards. Although snow falls nearly every year, amounts are generally quite low. Valley floor locations average 5-10 inches per year, mostly during December through February, although higher totals are observed at greater elevations in the foothills.
In preparation for upcoming low temperatures and possibility of winter snows ahead of us, city crews are already preparing.
The City of Tualatin currently has a couple of sanding units with plows and de-icing equipment and our crews are prepped and ready to go. The City also has snow clearing equipment for the sidewalks that are adjacent to public property as identified in the Snow and Ice Plan. The City works closely with the County and other jurisdictions for keeping roads as passable as possible.
Snow, ice, and freezing temperatures are to be taken seriously. The City of Tualatin Snow and Ice Response Plan prioritizes what we do when a snow storm hits. You can view the entire Snow and Ice Response Plan and the maps which denotes the priority areas that will be sanded as well as the pre-treatment areas.
Since we aren’t as used to this white stuff, be safe when you are out and about and if you don’t have to go out – stay in and stay warm. Don’t forget it is the homeowner’s responsibility to keep the sidewalks in front of your property cleared to prevent any hazards or injuries.
