2023 Tualatin Science and Technology Scholarship Winner Announced
The recipient of the Tualatin Science and Technology Scholarship for the 2023-24 school year is Kelly Tejeda Catellanos, who will receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Kelly lives with her uncle, Miguel Tejeda, in Tualatin and is a graduating senior at Tualatin High School. Kelly plans to attend Oregon State University, pursuing a degree in Physics. Her vision is to become a high school physics teacher and cites being inspired by her physics teacher, Mr. Chris Murray. “I want to teach physics as Mr. Murray does, in a fun and engaging way,” she said in her scholarship application.
Kelly is a member of the Language and Culture Club at Tualatin High school, also serving as a teaching assistant. At the school she previously attended in Mexico, Kelly participated in Dance Club and Volleyball Club. She has also been active in community volunteerism.
Her letters of recommendation described Kelly as inquisitive, compassionate, driven, and intelligent, a student who loves learning and who loves helping others.
The Scholarship Committee consists of Cyndy Hillier and Christen Sacco representing the Tualatin City Council, Zvonimir “Bunko” Camus of Pacific Metal Company representing the Tualatin Chamber of Commerce, and Jill Zurschmeide representing the Tigard-Tualatin School Board.
This scholarship recognizes high-achieving local graduates who plan to pursue a career in science, technology, or a related field.
