Cool Down at the Library / ¡Mantente fresco en la biblioteca!
Tualatin Library is among several "cooling centers" in Washington and Clackamas Counties that will be available this summer. The Tualatin Library is located at 18878 SW Martinazzi Ave. For more information, call 503-691-3074.
Library hours may be extended on any day that the Library is open under one of these conditions:
- The forecasted high and/or actual temperature is 98° or above.
- Washington County activates its Severe Heat Shelter response plan.
- The National Weather Service issues an Excessive Heat Warning or Advisory for the Tualatin area.
The Juanita Pohl Center is another location residents without air conditioning can find some relief. The JPC is located at 8513 SW Tualatin Rd. (inside Community Park). For more information, call 503-691-3061.
Heat is the number one weather-related killer in the United States, resulting in hundreds of fatalities each year and claiming more lives each year than floods, lightning, tornadoes and hurricanes combined. The most vulnerable individuals are those who work or exercise outdoors, adults over 65, infants and children under four, the homeless or poor, and people with chronic medical conditions.
Washington County Public Health advises taking precautions to avoid heat-related health issues, including staying hydrated, staying in an air-conditioned indoor location as much as possible, and avoiding strenuous activities.
