Teen Librarian Named Employee of the Year
The City of Tualatin Employee of the Year program is designed to recognize the work and actions of the City’s employees which bring credit to the City and improve our ability to deliver excellent service to Tualatin’s customers. This year, Aimee Meuchel, Teen Librarian in the Tualatin Public Library, was selected as Tualatin’s 2015 Employee of the Year.
Since the moment Aimee joined the City of Tualatin staff in September of 2006, she has been positively impacting the lives of youth who visit the Tualatin Public Library and who live in the Tualatin community. After being named Tualatin’s first Teen Librarian in 2008, she was instrumental in forming the Teen Library Committee, where teens help Aimee and other library staff to plan and deliver programs for teens, children and families, and the teens develop leadership, planning, and organizational skills. She developed and leads, in partnership with the Library’s Volunteer Coordinator, the Summer Teen Library program in which teen participants aide the library by completing shelving and other library maintenance tasks.
Aimee’s approachability, genuineness, creativity, care, and concern for the teens she mentors is what makes these and other teen programs respected, vibrant and well-recognized, as well as makes the Library Teen Room “the place to be”. These characteristics and more were reflected in the nominations submitted by Tualatin teens to the Oregon Young Adult Network (OYAN) for the You’re Excellent Award. Aimee was honored by OYAN as the award recipient at the 2015 Oregon Library Association Conference in recognition for her outstanding work, and positive and significant contribution to teens in Oregon libraries.
Aimee’s ability to exhibit grace under pressure, innovation, bubbly personality, and can-do attitude is admired and appreciated by all who work with her. She is a model of cooperation and support with coworkers, and delivers stellar customer service with resourcefulness, dedication, humility and good humor. “I can think of no one more deserving of this award than Aimee” said Sherilyn Lombos, Tualatin City Manager. “Aimee’s dedication to the teens of our community and to building an amazing place for teens to be is inspiring and worthy of recognition.”
The Tualatin City Council will present Aimee with a proclamation at their February 22, 2016, business meeting.
