Memoir Writing Series

You must attend all four classes. Mondays, July 9, 16, 23, 30, 6:30-8:30pm.

An opportunity for writers of all ages and backgrounds to receive a basic introduction to nonfiction writing and encourage the performance of the craft as a part of their everyday life. Through the series we will discuss honing in your voice to make your experiences personal, editing techniques to make that voice accessible to the reader, exercises and techniques to access memory and inspiration, and we will have a scaled version of a writer’s workshop.

During the class you will participate in several writing prompt exercises, one of which you will be expected to expand into a 5-7 page piece for review and discussion during workshop. This will require an outside-class commitment of producing writing and critiquing group work. At the end of the class you will have a piece that has been peer critiqued and edited, ready to be further developed using the skills discussed.

Tabitha Blankenbiller is an MFA graduate from Pacific University’s creative nonfiction program. Her essays have been featured in journals including Brevity, Sliver of Stone and Owl Eye Review. She is currently working on her coming-of-age memoir, among other projects.
