Business - Solid Waste, Recycling, and Organics Requirements
RECYCLING - Businesses in Tualatin are required to separate recycling for collection. Business owners must provide bins, labeled collection areas, and instructions to employees.
Ordinance 1280-09 (Business Recycling - Adopted 2009)

The Ordinance applies to all businesses and business recycling service customers for which the principal office is not a residence.

This ordinance requires businesses to ensure that recycling containers for internal maintenance of work areas are provided where recycling materials may be collected, stored, or both. Businesses shall also post accurate signs that describe the location where recyclable materials are collected, stored or both and identifying the materials that must be source separated for reuse or recycling and provide recycling instructions.

FOOD SCRAPS - Businesses that generate 250 lbs of food waste or more a week are also required to separate food scraps for collection. Business owners must provide bins, labeled collection areas, and instructions to employees.

This ordinance outline requirements of business food waste producers and owners. The Ordinance applies to all businesses that generate more than 250 pounds per week of food waste.

Covered businesses include cafeterias and buffets, caterers, colleges and universities, correctional facilities, drinking places, elementary and secondary schools, food product manufacturing, food service contractors, full-service restaurants, grocery retail, grocery wholesaler, hospitals, hotels, limited-service restaurants, nursing and residential care, specialty food markets, and warehouse clubs.
