What is a Street Tree?

Street trees are those that grow in the planter strips between the sidewalks and roadways. A city ordinance requires the replacement of each removed tree on a one-for-one basis to preserve the tree canopy from the approved list of tress.

Who is Responsible for Street Trees?

Property owners are responsible for the maintenance, care, and replacement of street trees. They are also required to obtain a Street Tree permit prior to the removal of street trees, which requires the replacement of each removed tree on a one-for-one basis from the approved list of trees.

Tualatin's approved street tree list includes several varieties of trees recommended for a to 4-6 foot planter strip. Who does the work?

Anyone can, as long as it is done safely! Property owners can do the work themselves, hire a contractor, or opt to pay the City to complete the work.

When will the City do the work?

Tree removal and stump grinding usually takes place within four weeks of permit approval. Tree replanting season is October through March of each year. Applications received outside the planting season will have their trees planted as soon as weather permits.
