Tualatin Police Welcome New Drug Dog - K9 Tony
We are pleased to announce the Tualatin Police Department has a new drug detection canine named Tony. He is an 18 month old Sheppard who came to us from a kennel in Denver, Indiana. Officer Eric French is assigned as our canine handler and is currently working with K9 Tony on obedience and narcotic detection training. Their training should continue until mid-February when K9 Tony will be tested and certified in narcotic detection standards through the Oregon Police Canine Association.
K9 Tony will be utilized in the same manner that K9 Zoey was in the past, with the exception of marijuana detection. So, expect to see more of Officer French and Tony in and around Tualatin and don’t be afraid to stop and say hello, Tony is very friendly and loves meeting new people.
K9 Zoey was trained in the detection of marijuana and since the change in law with Measure 91, she faced new challenges while performing her duties. Zoey has since gone to work for the Gooding County Sheriff’s Office in Idaho so that she can continue to be a valued resource for a community in need. We appreciate all of her efforts over the past three years and will miss her within the department.
