Tualatin Police Department’s National Pharmaceutical Drug Take Back Day Results
On Saturday, October 26, 2013, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm, Tualatin Police, in cooperation with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), hosted a “Pharmaceutical Drug Take Back Day” at the Tualatin Police Department, 8650 SW Tualatin Rd., in Tualatin.
This was an opportunity for citizens to bring in unwanted or expired prescription medications (liquid or solid) and over-the-counter medicines and dispose of them in a way that is safer for the environment and our community. The DEA is making efforts to stop the disposal of medications by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the garbage. The purpose of this event was to decrease the chances of the drugs getting into the wrong hands or ending up in our water supply.
Over a four hour period of time, the Tualatin Police Department collected eight boxes full of prescription and over-the-counter medications, totaling 222 pounds. These results represent the necessity of this event and we are pleased to report such a large turn-in.
Tualatin Police Department encourages citizens to be mindful of the environment and the safety of others when disposing of medications. For information on safe disposal methods, please go to http://waste.ky.gov/RLA/Documents/SMARxTDisposalpowerpointpresentation.pdf
