Vehicle Stolen with Infant Inside
On Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at approximately 6:45am, Tualatin Police responded to a kidnapping and stolen vehicle incident at the Oregon Dog Rescue, located at 6700 SW Nyberg St, in Tualatin.
Tualatin Police responded and learned the owner of the stolen car, a gray 2020 Kia Sedona van, had parked in the lot of Oregon Dog Rescue and left the car running while he went into the business to drop off his dog. During that time, the suspect, Marcus Esa Paul, 24 years of age, of Tualatin, got into the running vehicle and drove away. The owner of the vehicle informed police that his nine-month-old infant child was still in the van when it was stolen.
The suspect dropped the infant on the side of a road in Oregon City a short time later. The child was found by a passerby and turned over to police. The child was not injured during the incident.
Police, along with the owner’s help, were able to follow the van’s movements by tracking the owner’s cell phone that was left inside the van. The suspect and van were located on NE 95th and NE Prescott, in Portland, where a short foot pursuit ensued. Police were able to take Mr. Paul into custody at the Parkrose Transit Center.
Mr. Paul is being charged with first-degree kidnapping, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, and endangering the welfare of a minor. He will be booked into the Washington County Jail.
Tualatin Police thank Portland Police Bureau, Oregon State Police, Tigard Police, Oregon City Police, and King City Police for their help with this incident.
